Apple Tart

Step 1

Preheat oven to 190°C/fan 170°C/gas mark 5.

 

Step 2

Rub the Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix and the margarine together in a mixing bowl until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 3

Mix the sugar into the water until dissolved and combine with the Fate mixture.

Step 4

Leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Dust a clean work surface with Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix and knead the pastry for a minute on the work surface until smooth.

Step 6

Roll the pastry out between two pieces of grease proof paper, with a rolling pin to a 28cm circle and using the rolling pin, lift the pastry into the pie dish, making sure that you press the edges.

Step 7

Cut the excess pastry off the sides and using a fork, prick the pastry base all over.

Step 8

Spread 2 tbsp of sugar on the base of the pastry.

Step 9

Arrange the apple slices on top in a layered pattern.

Step 10

Mix together the remaining sugar and the cinnamon and sprinkle on top of the tart.

Step 11

Bake for 30 minutes then remove, drizzle on the golden syrup and serve.

Equipment:

You will need a lined 24cm pie dish.

 

Serving Suggestion:

Serve with low protein custard or low protein ice ‘cream’.

 

Top Tip:

Add 1 tsp of cinnamon to the Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix in Step 2 for a warmer flavour.

Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix is a food for special medical purposes and should be used under medical supervision.

  • For pastry base:
  • 250g Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix (plus extra for dusting)
  • 125g Soft margarine
  • 30g Sugar
  • 60ml Water
  • For filling:
  • 5 Apples, cored, halved and sliced
  • 4 tbsp Light muscovado sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Golden syrup
